Abstract
Workload is one of the key factors affecting operator performance, safety, and productivity in industrial settings. Working conditions at PT X’s refinery plant which feature high temperatures and noise levels, as well as repetitive job demands have the potential to cause physical and mental strain. This is also linked to workplace accidents, which are predominantly caused by human error, as well as the failure to meet production targets during certain periods. This study aims to determine the level of physical and mental workload among operators and provide recommendations for improvements to enhance work efficiency, safety, and productivity. The methods used were Cardiovascular Load (CVL) to measure physical workload based on heart rate and the Cognitive Reliability and Error Analysis Method (CREAM) to analyze mental workload and the potential for human error through the assessment of Common Performance Conditions (CPC). The research results indicate that the operators’ physical workload falls into the moderate-to-high category, with an average CVL value of 40.11%. Meanwhile, the CREAM analysis indicates a tactical control mode, with a Human Error Probability (HEP) value of 0.396, which falls into the “probable” category. These conditions indicate that high workload contributes to fatigue and an increased potential for human error. Therefore, improvements are needed in the form of rest period scheduling, work rotation, improvements to the work environment, refinement of SOPs, and enhanced operator training.
