Abstract

This document outlines the preliminary design for a hydrogen production plant utilizing a wet coal gasification process with an entrained flow gasifier, designed to produce 55,000 tons/year. The facility is planned to be established in 2030 in Satimpo, Bontang City, East Kalimantan, occupying a 40,200 m² area. Operating continuously for 330 days a year and 24 hours a day, the plant will be run by a Limited Liability Company utilizing a Line and Staff organizational structure with 205 employees. The primary raw materials are coal and air; coal was selected due to its abundant domestic supply from companies like PT. Kaltim Prima Coal, PT. BUMI, and Adaro. The gasification process operates at a pressure of 20 atm and temperatures ranging from 995°C to 1370°C to form hydrogen-rich syngas. To support these operations, the plant requires utilities including 134,748.12 kg/hour of steam, 11,187.4 kWh of electricity, 529.695 m³/hour of water, and 83.789 L/day of fuel. Economically, the project is structured with a 2-year construction period and an 8% annual bank interest rate. It demonstrates strong feasibility with a Return on Investment (ROI) of 41.18% before tax and 30.88% after tax, a payback period of 3 years and 11 months, an Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of 24.77%, and a Break-Even Point (BEP) of 39.50%.
