Abstract

This pre-design project concerns a magnesium chloride plant with a production capacity of 50,000 tons/year located in JIIPE Manyar, Gresik, East Java. Magnesium chloride is widely used in cement, ceramic, textile, and paper industries. The process utilizes magnesium hydroxide and hydrochloric acid in a stirred tank reactor at 50°C and 1 atm for 5 hours, achieving 80% conversion. The product undergoes filtration, evaporation, crystallization, centrifugation, and drying to obtain solid MgCl₂. Economic evaluation indicates the project is feasible, with a Return on Investment after tax of 24.13%, Payback Period of 2 years 7 months, and Break-Even Point of 28.32%.
