Abstract

Disodium Phosphate Heptahydrate (Na2HPO4.7H2O) is an important chemical for several industries and is produced in large quantities. Demand for Disodium Phosphate Heptahydrate (Na2HPO4.7H2O) in Indonesia continues to increase due to its widespread use in various industrial sectors. Disodium Phosphate Heptahydrate (Na2HPO4.7H2O) can be used as a builder or additive in the manufacture of soaps and detergents, as well as in water treatment to prevent corrosion. A Disodium Phosphate Heptahydrate plant from Sodium Chloride and Phosphoric Acid with a Crystallization Process with a capacity of 60,000 Tons/year will be established in the JIIPE Manyar Industrial Estate, Gresik. The production of disodium phosphate heptahydrate by crystallization consists of five stages: reaction, concentration, crystallization, separation, and drying. In the reaction stage, a 30% sodium chloride solution and 54% phosphoric acid are fed into the reactor to produce disodium phosphate. A neutralization reaction occurs in the reactor, producing disodium phosphate, water, and hydrochloric acid gas with a conversion rate of 95% at operating conditions of 90°C and 1 atm. The concentration process is carried out by evaporating the water contained in the disodium phosphate at 100°C and 1 atm. During the crystallization process, not all products can be crystallized completely, as the concentration depends on the resulting concentration. The slurry from the crystallizer is fed into a centrifuge to separate the solid crystals from the mother liquor. The cake produced by the centrifuge is transported to a rotary dryer for drying. Before packaging, the product is cooled on a cooling conveyor, then stored in a product storage silo, where it is ready for packaging.
