Abstract
Product quality is the main indicator of production process performance in the manufacturing industry because it directly influences customer satisfaction and company competitiveness. The high level of defects in the Profi Westerland beach chair model indicates that the production process capability is not yet fully stable and still requires more optimal control. This study aims to analyze the level of product quality and formulate improvement proposals to systematically reduce the level of defects. The method used is Six Sigma with the DMAIC (Define–Measure–Analyze–Improve–Control) approach to identify, measure, and analyze the causes of defects, and the Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) technique to determine improvement priorities based on the Risk Priority Number (RPN) value. The measurement results show an average Defects per Million Opportunities (DPMO) value of 17,291 with a sigma level of 3.66, indicating that the production process is still at a medium capability level. The dominant types of defects found are cracked wood and uneven paint. Based on the FMEA analysis, the three causes of defects with the highest RPN values were unattached nuts due to lack of verification before the next process, cracked wood due to unidentified initial cracks, and uneven paint due to inconsistent paint distribution. Recommendations for improvement focused on implementing a component completeness verification checklist, adding a special checklist to detect wood cracks early in the process, and standardizing painting methods for more even results. The implementation of Six Sigma and FMEA-based improvement proposals is expected to sustainably control product quality and support the achievement of the zero defect quality target.
