Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze the influence of sociodemographic characteristics, such as age, gender, education, income, and household size, on the consumption patterns of Food Away From Home (FAFH) among households in West Surabaya, as well as to describe and analyze the most dominant sociodemographic factors influencing the frequency and types of FAFH consumption patterns among households in West Surabaya. The sample in this study consisted of 100 respondents. Data analysis techniques used multiple regression analysis and t-tests. Based on the research results, sociodemographic characteristics such as age, gender, education, income, and household size have a significant influence on FAFH consumption patterns. It can be concluded that all tested sociodemographic variables contribute significantly to food consumption patterns outside the home in West Surabaya. The most dominant sociodemographic factor influencing the frequency and types of FAFH consumption patterns is income. The t-test shows that income has the highest coefficient value and a significant influence on eating-out consumption patterns. Households with higher incomes tend to spend more money on eating out, choose higher-quality dining places, and consume food away from home more frequently for convenience and social reasons. This indicates that income not only determines economic capability but also influences lifestyle choices and consumption habits that more often lead to Food Away From Home. Keywords: Sociodemographic Characteristics, Consumption Patterns, Food Away From Home
