Abstract

A 95,000 tons/year Heptahydrate Magnesium Sulfate plant is planned to be located in Manyar, Gresik, and will operate 24 hours/day for 330 days/year. The raw materials MgCO₃ and H₂SO₄ 98.5% are stored separately, and H₂SO₄ is diluted to 22% before being reacted in a CSTR for 3 hours with a conversion of 98%, producing MgSO₄ and CO₂. The reaction suspension is separated using a Rotary Drum Vacuum Filter, the filtrate is then evaporated to a concentration of 42.46% and crystallized into MgSO₄·7H₂O at 30°C. The crystals are separated using a centrifuge, dried with a Rotary Dryer and dry hot air, then channeled to a storage silo as the final product.
