Abstract
Sodium Carbonate Plant from Sodium Hydroxide and Carbon Dioxide using the Carbonation Process with a production capacity of 160,000 tons/year. This plant is planned to be established in 2029, specifically in the Tlogopojok area, Gresik Regency, East Java, in the Gresik Industrial Area (KIG). Sodium Carbonate is a chemical that is a raw material in various industries, such as the glass, soap, detergent, paper, textile, metallurgy, and ceramics industries. The sodium carbonate production process, in brief, begins with dissolving sodium hydroxide flakes in process water to a concentration of 29% in a dissolution tank under operating conditions of 1 atm and 30℃. The solution is then stabilized in a temporary storage tank and heated to 50℃ before being fed into the Bubble Reactor. CO2 gas is also fed into the Bubble Reactor, causing a reaction that forms Na2CO3. ℃. The output from the reactor, which is inert gas, is recycled to the CO2 storage tank, and the Na₂CO₃ solution will be fed into the evaporator to reduce the water content by 50% under operating conditions of 80°C and 0.5 atm, then fed into the crystallizer under operating conditions of 1 atm and 35.4°C to form Na₂CO₃.H₂O crystals. Then, the Na₂CO₃.H₂O crystals and mother liquor are separated in a centrifuge, where the mother liquor, which has a higher water content, is collected in a waste storage tank, while the crystals are dried in a rotary dryer with hot air at a temperature of 120°C. The Na₂CO₃ crystals are then cooled on a cooling conveyor at a temperature of 30°C and sized to a uniform 200 mesh. The Na2CO3 powder is packaged in 50kg bags and then marketed.
