Abstract
The development of information technology and social media has had a significant impact on communication patterns in society, including the emergence of online gambling advertisements widely spread across digital platforms such as Facebook. Online gambling ads are often packaged in a persuasive and appealing manner, thus potentially influencing users’ attitudes and behaviors. This study aims to explore Facebook users’ perceptions of online gambling advertisements on social media. This research employs a qualitative approach using in-depth interviews with Facebook users who have been exposed to online gambling ads. Informants were purposively selected based on age criteria and level of social media usage. Data analysis was conducted descriptively, examining cognitive, affective, and conative factors that shape users’ perceptions. The findings indicate that Facebook users’ perceptions of online gambling advertisements tend to vary. Some users view these ads as entertainment or economic opportunities, while others perceive them as harmful content with potential negative social impacts. Differences in perception are influenced by personal experiences, level of knowledge, and social environment.
