Abstract
This research is motivated by the increasingly evident phenomenon of social conflicts between generations in the modern era, particularly due to differences in values, lifestyles, and perspectives on social and technological changes. This phenomenon not only occurs in real life but is also represented through popular media such as films and television series. The Netflix series Cobra Kai was chosen because it depicts the dynamics of relationships between older and younger generations through its characters from different time backgrounds, showcasing clashes between traditional values and modernity in global culture. This research is based on the theory of representation and Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis, which interprets signs at the levels of denotation, connotation, and myth to uncover hidden meanings behind visuals, dialogues, and narratives. The research approach used is qualitative with a descriptive analysis method, focusing on scenes and dialogues that illustrate intergenerational conflicts. Data was collected through documentation and observation of several scenes in the Cobra Kai series that represent clashes in values, teaching methods, and perspectives among characters from different generations. The research results show that intergenerational social conflicts in Cobra Kai are represented through the philosophical opposition between the aggressive and competitive Cobra Kai dojo and the Miyagi-Do that emphasizes balance and wisdom. Differences in values and ways of thinking between generations are depicted in the interactions between Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso, as well as between their students. Semiotic analysis indicates that the connotative meanings of this conflict reflect social realities about value shifts, communication challenges between generations, and the importance of compromise in achieving social harmony. This research concludes that Cobra Kai not only portrays intergenerational conflicts but also conveys a moral message about the importance of mutual understanding and appreciating differences as an effort to build balance in modern social life. Keywords: Representation, Social Conflict, Intergenerational, Roland Barthes' Semiotics, Cobra Kai.
