Abstract

Anthracnose disease caused by Colletotrichum sp. is one of the major diseases affecting red chili plants, resulting in significant reductions in both yield quantity and quality. Disease control using fungicides can lead to the development of resistance and environmental pollution; therefore, an alternative approach is the utilization of biological control agents, such as the antagonistic fungus Trichoderma sp., which is more environmentally friendly. Trichoderma sp. was propagated on natural alternative media, including corn rice, sugarcane bagasse, cassava peels, and rice bran. This study was conducted using both in vitro and in vivo methods. The in vitro assay was performed using the dual culture method, while the in vivo assay was conducted using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with a single factor, namely the antagonistic fungus. The in vitro results showed that Trichoderma sp. exhibited antagonistic activity against Colletotrichum sp. of 52.58% on corn rice medium. The in vivo results indicated that Trichoderma sp. propagated on corn rice medium was able to reduce disease intensity to 6%, which was considerably lower than the control (without treatment), which reached 28%. Therefore, corn rice medium is considered an effective alternative medium for the propagation of Trichoderma sp.
