Abstract

The productivity of long beans (Vigna sinensis L.) in Indonesia is still low due to an imbalance between vegetative and generative growth. Efforts to increase yields can be made by administering paclobutrazol to suppress excessive vegetative growth and using NPK Phonska fertilizer as a source of macro and micro nutrients. This study aims to examine the effect of various concentrations of paclobutrazol, NPK Phonska doses, and their interactions on the growth and yield of long beans. The experiment was conducted at the Surabaya City DKPP experimental garden using a two-factorial Randomized Block Design, consisting of four levels of paclobutrazol (0, 100, 150, 200 ppm) and four levels of NPK Phonska (250, 300, 350, 400 kg/ha) with three replications. The parameters observed included plant height, flowering age, number of flowers, number of pods, pod weight per plant, per plot and per hectare, pod length and diameter, pod weight, and fruit formation. The results showed a significant interaction between paclobutrazol and NPK Phonska on plant height at 14 and 56 days after planting, number of pods in the 2nd and 3rd weeks, pod weight per plot, and fruit formation. The best combination was obtained at 250 ppm paclobutrazol and 400 kg/ha NPK Phonska with the highest fruit formation (86,92%) and high pod weight. However, in general, the doses of NPK 250–350 kg/ha and paclobutrazol 100–200 ppm did not differ significantly in several parameters. The combination of 150 ppm paclobutrazol and 400 kg/ha NPK was considered optimal for increasing yield and generative growth of long beans.
