Abstract
PT. Aneka Jasa Teknik Gresik is a manufacturing company engaged in supply, construction services, and maintenance, where metal cutting is one of its crucial activities. In the manual gas cutting (Oxy-LPG) process, the quality of the cut is greatly influenced by various technical parameters, one of which is the kerf width. This study aims to analyse the effect of oxygen pressure and torch distance variations on the kerf width of 8 mm thick SS400 steel material. The research method was conducted through direct experiments in the field using a Wipro ST80 Manual Gas Cutting tool. The parameters tested included oxygen pressure of 2 bar, 3 bar, and 4 bar, as well as torch distances of 5 mm, 7 mm, and 10 mm. Kerf width was measured using a precision taper gauge. The results showed a positive correlation between increased oxygen pressure and torch distance and the resulting kerf width. At a pressure of 2 Bar, the kerf width ranged from 2.3 mm to 2.7 mm. At a pressure of 3 Bar, the kerf width increased to 2.9 mm to 3.4 mm. Meanwhile, at a pressure of 4 Bar, the kerf width reached its highest value, ranging from 3.5 mm to 3.8 mm. It can be concluded that the greater the oxygen pressure and the greater the torch distance from the workpiece surface, the greater the kerf width produced. Optimal parameter settings are required to minimise material waste and obtain precise cutting results.
