Abstract
This study aims to optimize the effect of NaOH solvent concentration and rice husk ash particle size on the extraction of silica dioxide (SiO₂) using Response Surface Methodology (RSM). Rice husk, an abundant agricultural waste rich in silica, was processed through preparation, alkaline extraction, acid precipitation, and subsequent analysis of yield and adsorption capacity. Experimental variables included NaOH concentrations of 2–6 M and ash particle sizes of 30–200 mesh, with statistical optimization performed using RSM to identify the most effective operating conditions. The results showed that the optimum adsorption capacity was achieved at 4 M NaOH and 100 mesh particle size, yielding SiO₂ purity of 96.5% and adsorption capacity of 808.32 mg/g, meeting the SNI 06-2477-1991 standard. Meanwhile, the optimum yield was obtained at 3 M NaOH and 100 mesh particle size, producing 67.2% SiO₂ with a yield of 72%. XRF analysis confirmed the silica purity, highlighting the potential of rice husk as a sustainable source of high-quality silica for industrial adsorbent applications while contributing to agricultural waste management
