Abstract
The potassium sulfate plant is planned to begin operation in 2029 at Kota Bukit Indah Industrial Estate, Purwakarta, West Java, with a production capacity of 50,000 tons per year and an operating period of 330 days annually. The plant produces potassium sulfate with 99% purity as the main product and sodium chloride with 98.6% purity as a by-product. The production process includes the formation of glaserite through the reaction of 35% KCl solution and 44% Na₂SO₄ solution at 25°C for 60 minutes, treatment of the first mother liquor in a crystallizer at 0°C, concentration of the second mother liquor in an evaporator, and crystallization followed by separation of NaCl using a centrifuge. Mirabilite and the third mother liquor are recycled to the glaserite formation step before reacting with 28.16% KCl solution at 30°C for 45 minutes to produce potassium sulfate. The economic evaluation indicates a pre-tax ROI of 30.82%, a post-tax ROI of 24.04%, a payback period of 3 years and 1 month, an IRR of 20.44%, and a BEP of 35.59%. Therefore, the establishment of the potassium sulfate plant is considered economically feasible.
