Abstract

The issue of human trafficking in Thailand is a complex form of transnational crime that requires cross-border collaboration. In this study, the authors use the framework of regional cooperation and external actors by Wasi & Pakistan and Klose, as well as human trafficking by Shelley. This study aims to explain how the Australian Government, as an external actor, plays a role in supporting ASEAN as a regional organization. This study uses qualitative methods with a descriptive approach and secondary data collection techniques obtained from reports, official documents, and academic literature. This study explains that the success of regional cooperation is inseparable from the role of external actors in providing political support, technical resources, and financial assistance. This study focuses on Australia's role as an external actor in supporting ASEAN in strengthening the implementation of the ASEAN Convention Against Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children (ACTIP) in Thailand. Cooperation between ASEAN and Australia also helps improve institutional capacity and coordination between law enforcement in Thailand and strengthens protection for victims of human trafficking. Keywords: Human Trafficking, Regional Cooperation and External Actors, Thailand, Australia, ASEAN-Australia Counter Trafficking (ASEAN-ACT)
