Abstract

A Urea Formaldehyde plant with a capacity of 45,000 tons/year will be established in the JIIPE industrial area in Gresik, operating continuously 24 hours per day for 330 days per year and using urea (99.95%) and formaldehyde (37%) as raw materials. Urea formaldehyde is widely used as an adhesive in plywood, MDF, particleboard, furniture, and construction materials. The continuous production process involves two reaction stages: methylolation under alkaline conditions (pH 9) to form dimethyl urea, followed by condensation under acidic conditions (pH 3) to produce UF resin at 80°C and 1 atm. The product is then neutralized, concentrated at 45°C and 0.2 atm, dried using a spray dryer to obtain ±180-micron powder, and milled to 100 mesh.
