Abstract

Urban farming is an alternative strategy to address the problem of limited agricultural land in urban areas while supporting efforts to achieve food security. This study aims to analyze the management model of urban farming in Surabaya City, examine the related social, environmental, and economic aspects, and formulate sustainable development strategies. The research method used is descriptive with a quantitative and qualitative approach, through interviews, observations, and questionnaires distributed to farmer groups and related institutions. The results show that the management model of urban farming in Surabaya operates in a collaborative pattern between communities, farmer groups, the government, and the private sector. From the social aspect, urban farming strengthens social interaction, increases community participation, and serves as a medium for food education. From the environmental aspect, this activity helps optimize the use of limited land, improve air quality, and reduce organic waste, while from the economic aspect, urban farming contributes to increasing household income and saving food expenditures. The proposed development strategies include strengthening government support through the provision of production facilities and technical training, improving market access for harvested products, developing cultivation technology innovations, and expanding partnership networks for program sustainability. Thus, urban farming in Surabaya has great potential to strengthen urban food security if managed with an adaptive, participatory, and sustainable model.
