Abstract

This study presents the design of a Dioktyl Terephthalate (DOTP) production plant through the esterification of Terephthalic Acid with 2-Ethylhexanol, located in the Krakatau Steel Industrial Area, Cilegon, Banten. The plant is designed to operate continuously for 24 hours per day and 330 days per year, utilizing high-purity feedstocks of Terephthalic Acid (99.8%) and 2-Ethylhexanol (99.5%), with sulfuric acid (98%) employed as a catalyst at 1% of the total feed. DOTP functions as a primary plasticizer and plays a critical role in the polyvinyl chloride (PVC) industry, where it constitutes approximately 30% of the total raw material demand.
