Abstract
The lack of a representative platform for craft arts in Yogyakarta is one of the obstacles in promoting and preserving local cultural wealth. In addition, the proliferation of new buildings that do not take into account the image of the area further threatens the visual and cultural identity of the city. This condition necessitates a facility that can accommodate local craftsmen, while integrating cultural and environmental aspects into its design. The objective of this design is to create a Craft Art Center in Bantul that functions as a platform for education, preservation, and appreciation of craft art, while also supporting the development of the local creative economy. The design was created using traditional Javanese architectural concepts to strengthen the image of the area and preserve cultural continuity. The methods used included primary data collection through observation, literature study, and case studies, followed by site analysis, spatial planning, and design concept development covering massing, building appearance, and environmental integration. The design results show that this Craft Art Center can accommodate various craft art activities, such as exhibitions, training, and collaboration, in a clustered mass arrangement pattern that strengthens the relationship between buildings. The traditional Javanese architectural approach has resulted in a building that is in harmony with the environment, while also strengthening the cultural image of Yogyakarta. This project is expected to become a model of development that is responsive to culture and the environment, as well as a sustainable educational and artistic tourist destination.
