Abstract
The plant is planned to be established in the Karang Anyar Industrial Area. In the chemical industry, ethyl acetate is used in the production of printing ink, paint and thinner, adhesives, PVC films, liquid polymers in the paper industry, as well as various other absorbent industries, including the pharmaceutical industry. This plant will operate 24 hours a day and 330 days a year. The raw materials for the Ethyl Acetate Plant are ethanol and acetic acid supplied by PT. IndoAcidatama and the Amberlite IRC-120 H⁺ catalyst supplied by PT. Aquatech Indonesia. The production process of ethyl acetate begins by evaporating ethanol and increasing the pressure to 1.2 atm and the temperature to 110°C, while acetic acid is also heated to 110°C. Both reactants are fed into a trickle bed reactor with co-current downflow operation under conditions of 110°C and 1 atm pressure. The reactor output consists of two streams: vapor (containing ethyl acetate, ethanol, and water), which is directed to the reactive distillation unit; and liquid (mainly acetic acid and water), which is split into two streams—one directed to the reactive distillation column and the other recycled back to the reactor. In the reactive distillation unit, the remaining acetic acid and ethanol undergo further reaction and separation. Ethyl acetate is separated from acetic acid and water. The bottom product is sent to the Waste Water Treatment unit, while the top product is directed to the pervaporation membrane unit. In this unit, ethyl acetate is separated from water. Water vapor is drawn off using a vacuum pump and condensed with a condenser, while the retentate, consisting of 99.99% pure ethyl acetate, is cooled and sent to the ethyl acetate storage tank.
