Abstract

The “Duduk Vincent” trend on TikTok has emerged as a popular cultural phenomenon that presents new forms of masculinity among Generation Z. This representation departs from traditional masculine traits such as dominance and physical strength, and instead highlights a relaxed, calm, and soft male image. This study aims to explore how Indonesian Gen Z audiences perceive and interpret nonHegemonic masculinity within this trend. Using a qualitative approach and Stuart Hall’s reception theory, the research collected data through in-depth interviews with six purposively selected informants. The results reveal diverse audience positions ranging from dominant-Hegemonic, negotiated, to oppositional readings. Informants who fully embraced the trend saw it as a reflection of modern masculine freedom. Others, however, questioned its authenticity and viewed it as inconsistent with their personal ideals of masculinity. The study concludes that TikTok, as a participatory platform, enables complex decoding processes shaped by personal background, cultural values, and social experiences. Keywords: Non-Hegemonic masculinity, Gen Z, TikTok, reception theory, Duduk Vincent.
