Abstract

The increasing number of patients with life-threatening diseases in adults, children, and geriatrics who require palliative care, even the city of Surabaya itself was confirmed as the first palliative city in Indonesia since 2010, making the existence of palliative care so important. Meanwhile, environmental factors in the patient's healing process are also an important aspect because they can help 40% of the efficiency of increasing patient recovery. So it will be more optimal if palliative care uses a built environment that also supports recovery and reduces patient stress, including comfort, privacy, and tranquility. The location of the selected palliative care center is located in Keputih, Sukolilo District. The site location has easy accessibility and is close to the Oncology Hospital and supporting facilities such as supermarkets and minimarkets, places of worship and is in a residential area. The design of the Palliative Care Center uses the Restorative Environment approach which is an approach that has an attachment to sensory stimulation, and can reduce stress, and uses the User Centered Design method which can understand the needs of its users and can encourage interaction with nature and social. Through the design of the Palliative Care Center with a Restorative Environment approach that has a connection between the sensory response with the environment and the overall architectural design of the building, it is hoped that it will not be the only one that will be able to reduce stress.
