Abstract
This research discusses how Generation Z's acceptance and meaning of the role of the youngest child as a sandwich generation depicted in the film ‘Home Sweet Loan’. When this film aired in September 2024, there were quite dynamic comments about how the position of the youngest child as a sandwich generation reaped pros and cons from the Indonesian people. Their pro point of view is how Kaluna depicts the role of the youngest child in accordance with the realities of real life, while their counter point of view is how the role of the youngest child in the film is not in accordance with the reality that occurs in society. This research uses a qualitative study with Stuart Hall's reception analysis method that allows researchers to get acceptance and meaning divided into three positions, namely dominant hegemony, negotiation, and opposition. Six out of seven generation z informants as the sandwich generation agreed with the role of the youngest child portrayed by Kaluna because they felt it was relate to the real conditions, while one of them agreed with Kaluna's role but had their own considerations. This study then found that the role of the youngest child as a sandwich generation depicted by Kaluna in the film Home Sweet Loan is a condition that is in accordance with reality so that it explains how the youngest child is no longer spoiled but can play a role as a sandwich generation in the family, this can happen because birth order does not affect the formation of a sandwich generation in a family. Both the eldest, youngest, and middle child can act as a sandwich generation in their family.
