Abstract
The Sodium Tripolyphosphate factory with a capacity of 65,000 tons/year will be established in Java Integrated and Ports Estate (JIIPE), Gresik, East Java. This factory will operate 24 hours a day and 330 days a year. The Sodium Tripolyphosphate factory uses Sodium Sesquicarbonate as raw material obtained from PT. Uni Chemical Candi, Phosphorus Pentoxide from PT. Petrokimia Gresik. Sodium Tripolyphosphate can be used as raw material for making detergent products, ceramic industry, and can be used as a thickening agent. Sodium Tripolyphosphate can be produced with several processes, including the single-stage calcination process and double-stage calcination. This factory uses Sodium Sesquicarbonate and phosphorus pentoxide as raw materials and three processes, namely the raw material preparation process, the neutralization stage and the calcination stage. The process of making Sodium Tripolyphosphate begins with the first raw material sodium sesquicarbonate dissolved in water in a dissolution tank at a temperature of 30oC. The second process is the neutralization stage, this process aims to neutralize Phosphorus Pentoxide by sodium sesquicarbonate in the neutralization reactor so that monosodium phosphate and disodium phosphate are obtained. The third stage is the calcination stage this stage aims for the reaction of forming Sodium Tripolyphosphate from dry orthophosphate salt. Because this reaction in addition to forming Sodium Tripolyphosphate also releases water, this reaction is called polycondensation. At this stage, the monosodium phosphate and disodium phosphate slurry are then flowed into the spray dryer for the calcination stage which will produce sodium tripolyphosphate. The temperature used in the spray dryer is 500℃
