Abstract

A Propyl Bromide production plant utilizing the hydrobromination of propanol with hydrobromic acid (HBr) and sulfuric acid (H₂SO₄) as a catalyst will be established in the Cilegon Industrial Area, Cilegon City, West Java. The plant is designed to produce 50,000 tons per year, operating continuously for 24 hours a day and 330 days per year. The main raw materials are 4,371.59 kg/h of HBr and 4,594.71 kg/h of propanol, with 37,093.76 kg/h of sulfuric acid added as a catalyst. The reaction takes place in a Bubble Column Reactor (RATB) at 80°C and 1 atm, producing 6,313.13 kg/h of high-purity Propyl Bromide. Utilities required include 698.41 kWh/day of electricity, 268.84 m³/day of water, and 243.40 L/day of fuel. The plant will employ 232 personnel and cover a land area of 20,869.51 m², and will be managed under a Limited Liability Company (PT) with a line-and-staff organizational structure. The total capital investment (TCI) is estimated at IDR 1.60 trillion, consisting of fixed capital (FCI) of IDR 1.36 trillion and working capital (WCI) of IDR 240.74 billion. The projected revenue is IDR 4.52 trillion per year, with total production costs of IDR 3.46 trillion. Feasibility analysis shows a pre-tax ROI of 59%, post-tax ROI of 46%, IRR of 50.16%, a payback period of 3 years and 5 months, and a break-even point at 35.43% production capacity. Based on technical and economic evaluations, the establishment of this Propyl Bromide plant is considered viable and profitable, capable of meeting domestic demand and exploring export opportunities.
