Abstract

Diarrhea is one of the most common illnesses affecting elementary school children and can have negative impacts on both the learning process and long-term health. The primary causes of diarrhea in children include low awareness of the importance of Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) and the habit of consuming unhygienic snacks within the school environment. Based on observational findings, children aged 10–11 years exhibit a limited understanding of how to prevent diarrhea. Therefore, an educational medium that is engaging, communicative, and aligned with children's cognitive development is urgently needed. The design method employed in this project includes field observation, interviews, literature review, and data analysis, which were then synthesized into a visual design concept. This book focuses on methods of diarrhea prevention as an effort to increase awareness among 10–11-year-old children regarding the dangers of diarrhea and the implementation of PHBS in the school environment. The book features a cartoon-style illustration with pencil texture, light and instructional language, and interactive elements such as pop-ups, hidden objects, and lift-the-flap features to enhance children’s engagement in the reading process. The final outcome of this project is an educational book that not only delivers information but also encourages children to actively engage in understanding the importance of clean and healthy living. This book is expected to serve as an effective visual literacy medium to support health education in elementary school settings.
