Abstract

The complexity of the "people pleaser" problem that is often hidden behind a smile and the word "yes", requires media that is able to describe the nuances of emotion and inner dilemmas in a complete and touching way. Many individuals, especially those of productive age, feel trapped in social expectations without being able to explain their feelings verbally. This is where an illustrated book is important, which not only conveys messages visually, but also opens up space for empathy and self-reflection. To realize this book, the initial step that needs to be taken is to collect data from the real experiences of people pleasers through interviews with sources, conducting questionnaires and social observations in the work environment and social media. In addition, it is important to conduct psychological research on the roots and impacts of this behavior, as well as exploring communication and empathy theories. This process involves visual exploration creating characters, atmospheres, and symbols that represent pressure, rejection, and self-recovery. All of this data is processed into a visual narrative that is touching, educational, and relevant to life. This book, entitled "Si Tukang Iya: Are U a People Pleaser?", tells the journey of a character who initially could not say "no", always tried to please everyone, until finally finding a balance between personal needs and social demands. This illustrated book does not just present a story, but invites readers to feel, ask, and answer. Visualization of emotions, facial expressions, and dynamics of situations in the story become a strong empathetic medium to foster self-awareness and the courage to face conflict healthily. In a broader context, the illustrations in this book make a significant contribution stating that humans have duality as social and individual beings. When the illustration presents a scene showing someone smiling even though their heart is tired, or when a character tries to refuse but is depressed, readers will find it easier to understand the internal conflict that occurs. Strong visuals are able to explain things that are unspoken, touch on emotional aspects, and help readers realize that their struggles are valid. This illustrated book not only conveys a message, but also becomes an emotional experience that facilitates the healing process and the formation of a healthier identity. Keywords: Design, Illustrated Book, People pleaser, World of Work.
