Abstract
ABSTRACT Surabaya as one of the centers of education in Indonesia attracts thousands of immigrant students from various regions every year. However, many of them experience culture shock, which includes differences in language, culture, environment, and challenges in navigating the metropolitan city. This problem has an impact on students' adaptability, which can affect their social, emotional, and academic well-being. Based on the results of the questionnaire and Focus Discussion Group (FGD), it was found that 97.6% of immigrant students experience culture shock with the dominant factors being cultural adaptation, language, and transportation systems. Overcome this problem, a digital illustration guidebook (e-book) was designed for immigrant students outside Surabaya. This media was chosen because of students' preference for flexible and environmentally friendly digital formats. This book contains a guide about the city of Surabaya and life hacks to help immigrant students adapt to the Surabaya environment, such as information about public transportation, typical foods, important places, and tips for managing finances and interacting socially. The design method involves primary data analysis (questionnaires, FGDs, interviews) and secondary (literature, comparative studies, online media), as well as thematic analysis to identify audience needs. The visual concept is designed with a modern and dynamic illustration style, using cheerful colors that reflect the spirit of the city of Surabaya. With this approach, it is hoped that this book will not only be a practical guide, but will also be able to reduce the level of culture shock and improve the quality of adaptation of incoming students. This book also promotes the culture and potential of the city of Surabaya positively to the younger generation. Keywords: Culture Shock, Newcomer Students, Surabaya, Practical Guide
