Abstract

Early childhood students are children aged three to five years old. This developmental stage is often referred to as the "Golden Age", a critical period for the cognitive development. Kumon Royal Mojosari is one of the individual tutoring centers that serves students ranging from three to fifteen years old. The objective of this study was to determine the communications patterns between teachers and early childhood students during the learning process at Kumon Royal Mojosari. The study is a qualitative research using a descriptive analysis method. The results showed that communication between teachers and early childhood students is interpersonal communication. The comumunication patterns observed at Kumon Royal Mojosari are two-way and three-way communication. Two-way communication involves reciprocal interactions between teacher and student, where they mutually give and receive feeedback. Three-way communication involves interactions among teacher, student and other students, however this pattern rarely occurs. The inhibiting factor in learning at Kumon Royal Mojosari is the fluctuation in students’ moods, which can lead to decreased concentration in receiving material or messages. Keywords: Communication Pattern, Teacher and Student, Early Childhood Students, Learning.
