Abstract

Sodium Dodecylbenzene Sulfonate Plant from dodecylbenzene and sulfuric acid with a capacity of 65,000 tons/year, is planned to be established in Suralaya Village, Pulomerak District, Cilegon City, Banten. The raw materials for the manufacture of Sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate (SDBS) consist of Dodecylbenzene and sulfuric acid for the sulfonation process, then sodium hydroxide is needed for the neutralization process Dodecylbenzene used is obtained from PT Unggul Indah Cahaya in the Cilegon area. Sulfuric acid is obtained from PT Indonesia Acid Industri in East Jakarta. Sodium hydroxide was obtained from PT Asahimas Chemical in Cilegon area. The process of making Sodium Dodecylbenzene Sulfonate briefly begins by reacting dodecylbenzene raw materials with 98% sulfuric acid with a mole ratio of 1: 3 in the reactor. The reaction conversion reached 98%. The products formed in the Reactor are Dodecylbenzene Sulfonate Acid, Water, and excess Sulfuric Acid. Dodecylbenzene Sulfonic Acid, water, and excess sulfuric acid were separated by decanter. The bottom result of the heavy fraction decanter is accommodated to the Storage Tank. While the top result of the light fraction decanter (Dodecylbenzene Sulfonate Acid) is neutralized with 20% NaOH in the neutralizer to produce Sodium Dodecylbenzene Sulfonate. Then the liquid Sodium Dodecylbenzene Sulfonate is flowed to the spray dryer to produce Sodium Dodecylbenzene Sulfonate Powder with a purity of 97%.
