Abstract

Food waste is a global issue with significant impacts on both the economy and the environment. In 2021, approximately 40% or 2.5 billion tons of the total global food production was wasted. This represents a substantial increase, with 1.2 billion tons more than the estimated total food waste in 2011. Globally, Indonesia ranks second as the country with the highest food waste. About 39.4% of the total waste generated in Indonesia is food waste, making it the largest category of waste. This research aims to design and develop a mobile-based leftover food sales application utilizing geolocation and the Haversine method to facilitate leftover food transactions. The application is designed to allow users to access the location of leftover food sellers within a maximum radius of 25 kilometers from their position. The choice of the Haversine method in this research is based on a comparison of its accuracy and computational speed with other popular distance calculation methods. The research findings show that the application successfully displays the distance between consumers and leftover food sellers. Black box testing confirms that all application functionalities work as intended. Meanwhile, the results of the System Usability Scale (SUS) test involving 12 respondents produced an average score of 83.3. This score indicates that the user acceptance level is within the acceptable range, with a grade level of B for the application.
