Abstract

This research aims to design a photogrammetry image-based below-knee leg prosthesis socket and simulate static loading at four predetermined points to obtain stress, strain, and safety factor responses. The object of research was the leg stump of Mr Ari, a transtibial amputee due to an accident while riding a motorbike. The Biomedical Engineering team of UPN ‘Veteran’ East Java, with the help of Politeknik Kesehatan Kemenkes Surakarta, tried to make a prosthetic leg to make it easier for amputee to do his daily activities. The socket design was made based on amputee's foot data obtained through Reverse Engineering method with Photogrammetry technique. Data from scanning the stump was then processed to create a smooth surface using software such as Autodesk Meshmixer. Furthermore, the stump model was imported into software such as Solidworks to generate the right geometry in CAD format. Simulation using Ansys 19.2 software with static structural simulation type. The simulation load given according to the ISO 10328 proof strength test data was 3864 N, which was distributed at four loading points, namely the patellar ligament, medial shaft of tibia, posterior compartment, and anterior compartment. The simulation results provided information regarding the stress, strain, and safety factor of the designed socket with PLA socket and 2 mm thickness is the optimal socket.
