Abstract

Sweet corn is experiencing a continuous increase in market demand. However, in Indonesia sweet corn yields are still relatively low, due to production instability and influenced by many factors, including pests and diseases in plants, inappropriate and inefficient cultivation techniques and the varieties used. Several efforts that can be made to overcome the problem of decreasing sweet corn productivity are by pruning the leaves and applying a type of N fertilizer. This research aims to determine the combined effect of the number of lower leaves on the cobs and providing the right type of nitrogen fertilizer on the growth and yield of sweet corn plants. . The results of the research showed that the best treatment combination was the number of leaves leaving 3 leaves under the cobs and the application of KNO₃ fertilizer which had an effect on the average fresh weight of cobs with husks (308.50 g), length of cobs (18.83 cm), weight of cobs with husks per plot/3.16 m (10.12 kg) and weight of shelled cobs per hectare (28.11 tonnes).
