Abstract

Surabaya, as one of the busiest ports in Indonesia, has high shipping activity. Surabaya's Tanjung Perak region is a strategic center of maritime activity. The high level of shipping activity in this region drives attention to the safety and efficiency of ship operations. Changing sea weather conditions are a crucial factor affecting the safety and efficiency of shipping. Therefore, a good understanding of weather conditions and early warning is essential for ship captains operating in the region. This research aims to design and develop a Marine Weather Early Warning System (EWS) web interface that can provide real-time and specific marine weather information for shipping lanes in the BMKG Meteorology Surabaya observation area. This research involves some important information related to the preparation of prototypes in accordance with the title. The data/information that researchers use to support prototype design comes from BMKG field data and evaluation results from respondents who will later conduct questionnaires that apply the System Usability Scale (SUS) method. The method used in this research is Goal Directed Design (GDD), which prioritizes user needs and clear goals in designing web interfaces. The main objective of this research is to provide accurate, up-to-date, and easily accessible marine weather information for users with an interest in shipping in the region. Using GDD, this research will involve analyzing user needs, designing prototypes, and testing and evaluating the resulting web interface. The results of this research are expected to contribute to improving the safety and efficiency of shipping in the Surabaya area as well as providing better access to marine weather information for stakeholders. Although, the design of the Marine Weather EWS web interface design prototype is in accordance with the expectations of researchers. Still, this research is far from perfect and a lot of improvements need to be made in an effort to create an interface design that is able to understand user needs and is efficient as an information system for the community.
