Abstract

Bottled drinking water (AMDK) is a major source of hydration in Indonesia, with 900 AMDK companies and 2,000 brands competing in Q2 2021. The free market era has allowed foreign products to enter Indonesia, increasing competition and underscoring the importance of quality defined as conformance to requirements or standards. This research applies the Seven Tools approach to analyze the most dominant defects and look for factors that cause these defects as a quality control effort in the 600 mL bottle blowing process. This study identified 5 defects that impact packaging quality: white bottle, dent, shrink bottle, broken bottle, and imperfect bottle. It is known that the most dominant defect is the white bottle defect with a percentage of (30.27%), dented bottle defect of (26.47%), imperfect bottle defect of (23.53%), shrink bottle defect of (11.16%), and broken bottle defect of (8.58%). The proposed improvements compiled by the researcher are considered to be implemented to reduce the number of defective products in the blowing process. This research highlights the need for continuous improvement to minimize defects and achieve global competitiveness in the bottled water market.
