Abstract
The Colorado State Fair is a carnival event held annually in the United States, specifically in the state of Pueblo. The Colorado State Fair features a series of events that can be attended by people from various countries. Among them are art exhibitions, horse shows, races, concerts by musicians, dancers, and comedians. All talents can be showcased and displayed at the Colorado State Fair. In the art competition held at the Colorado State Fair, a game designer named Jason Allen won the competition in the digital art category. In the competition, Jason Allen used an Artificial Intelligence named Midjourney. Jason Allen's victory using AI led to several debates among other participants. Some said that it was cheating, while others said it was permissible. The purpose of this research is to understand the reception of digital creative workers, particularly graphic designers and illustrators, to the news in Smithsonian Magazine about the victory in the Colorado State Fair art competition. The researcher used an in-depth interview approach to investigate the phenomenon. The researcher also used a Observation to obtain references and discussion materials for the study. Many believe that it is permissible. However, it is argued that artificial intelligence technology should not be used in creating artwork, especially in a competition. Many informants stated that artificial intelligence technology cannot fully replace creative workers, as there must be human intervention to ensure the originality of the work, and the messages intended to be conveyed can be delivered clearly and effectively.
