Abstract

Waste is a problem that has yet to be resolved. It cannot be denied that waste is a consequence of human life activities that become an item that is no longer used. Waste problems that are not handled properly will cause other problems such as social problems, flooding, health problems that can reduce the quality of human life. So, it is necessary to handle waste more optimally by involving community participation in reducing and managing waste through waste banks. One of these waste banks is the Bintang Mangrove Waste Bank. But in its implementation, of course, Bintang Mangrove Waste Bank faces various challenges and obstacles, one of which is related to community participation. The purpose of this research is to find out how participation and the fulfilment of the principles of community participation in the waste management program at Bintang Mangrove Waste Bank. This research is included in descriptive qualitative research. Data collection techniques with observation, interviews, and documentation. The result showed that 1) The principle of coverage has been implemented. 2) The principle of equal partnership has been implemented but not optimized. 3) The principle of transparency has been implemented but not yet optimal. 4) The principle of equal powership has been implemented. 5) The principle of sharing responsibility has been well implemented. 6) The principle of empowerment has been well implemented. 7) The principle of cooperation at Bintang Mangrove Waste Bank has been implemented.
