Abstract
Corn husk waste is a lignocellulosic biomass raw material which can be processed into biobutanol. Processing into biobutanol is due to to reduce the use of fossil fuels, so that there is Biobutanol is a friendlier substitute for fossil fuels environment. The selection of corn husk waste as raw material is based on the results of laboratory analysis show that it contains 36.218% cellulose. Biobutanol goes through several processes, namely: material preparation process, delignification using NaOH, acid hydrolysis using H2SO4 and fermentation using Clostridium acetobutylicum bacteria. This research aims to looking for the best conditions for biobutanol levels from corn husks during fermentation and the volume of bacteria (Clostridium acetobutylicum) added. The research results showed that the fermentation time and the fermentation volume used affects the biobutanol content produced. The research results show that the best conditions for biobutanol levels occur during time 72 hours with a bacterial volume of 5% and produced biobutanol levels of 7.0106%. Based on this, the bacteria Clostridium acetobutylicum has is in the stationary phase so that the rate of bacterial growth increases. Products from biobutanol in this study was analyzed using Gas Chromatography (GC) and produces: solvent (acetone, butanol, ethanol), second: organic acid (acid acetate). In addition, the formation of furfural as an inhibitor in the fermentation process, thus causing obstruction of sugar absorption and decreased production ethanol and butanol, and the by-product obtained is toluene. Key words: corn husks, anaerobic fermentation, Clostridium acetobutylicum, biobut
