Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effects of Financial Literacy and Parental Financial Socialization on Financial Management Behavior and the mediating role of Self-Efficacy among Generation Z in Jakarta. Generation Z in Jakarta faces challenges in managing personal finances amid increasing financial activities and easier access to digital financial services. These conditions highlight the importance of financial knowledge, financial learning from parents, and confidence in one's own abilities in supporting better Financial Management Behavior. This study employed a quantitative approach using purposive sampling involving 150 Generation Z respondents aged 18–28 who had resided in Jakarta, were employed, and had personal income. Data were collected through a five-point Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS 4.0. The results indicate that Financial Literacy contributes to Financial Management Behavior through an understanding of income and expenses, Parental Financial Socialization through parental financial role modeling, and Self-Efficacy through confidence in controlling and managing one's financial situation. Furthermore, Self-Efficacy was found to mediate the relationships of Financial Literacy and Parental Financial Socialization with Financial Management Behavior. These findings suggest that financial knowledge and learning from parents can strengthen individuals' confidence in managing their finances, thereby supporting better Financial Management Behavior.
