Abstract
This study analyzes the differences in the news framing of the case involving the principal of SMAN 1 Cimarga who slapped a student for smoking on school premises as reported by the online media detik.com and radarbanten.co.id. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method with a constructivist paradigm. The study applies Robert N. Entman's framing analysis model, which consists of four main elements: problem identification, diagnose causes, make moral judgement, and treatment recommendation. The findings reveal that detik.com frames the case as an issue of public policy and conflict resolution by emphasizing the temporary suspension of the principal, the mediation process among the parties involved, the enforcement of student discipline, and conflict resolution through dialogue and guidance. Meanwhile, radarbanten.co.id frames the case as an issue of social reconciliation and the protection of educational institutions by highlighting the impact of the conflict on the school, the support of the local government and the Banten community for the principal, the peace settlement process, and the psychological recovery of the students. These framing differences are influenced by the characteristics and editorial orientations of each media outlet, with detik.com representing a national online news portal and radarbanten.co.id representing a local online news portal. As a result, both media construct different social realities regarding the same event through the analysis of 16 news articles, consisting of 8 articles from detik.com and 8 articles from radarbanten.co.id. This study concludes that media framing is influenced by the characteristics and editorial policies of each media outlet in selecting, emphasizing, and interpreting facts, thereby shaping public perceptions of violence in educational settings, student discipline, and conflict resolution in schools. Keywords: Media Framing, Principal of SMAN 1 Cimarga, Violence in Educational Settings, detik.com, radarbanten.co.id, Robert N. Entman.
