Abstract
This study aims to determine the construction of women's self-standard discourse in @nmaliccaa's TikTok content using Teun A. van Dijk's Critical Discourse Analysis. The rise of self-development content on TikTok has made social media a space that shapes women's perspectives on their own values and standards. The @nmaliccaa account consistently conveys narratives that encourage women to be financially independent, improve themselves, set boundaries, and respect themselves, but on the other hand, it has the potential to reproduce patriarchal values. This study uses a qualitative approach with Teun A. van Dijk's Critical Discourse Analysis method. A total of 124 contents from the @nmaliccaa account are categorized into nine categories of women's self-standards using Braun & Clarke's hybrid theoretical inductive thematic analysis approach. Then, nine representative contents are analyzed in depth through the dimensions of text structure, social cognition, and social context. The research findings show that women are constructed to continually build and prove their standards of self through independence, self-development, and assertiveness. However, these standards remain partly oriented toward external assessments, while gender roles are naturalized through the positions of men and women, which are framed as normal in society. This finding represents the paradox of women's empowerment, which encourages independence while still reproducing patriarchal ideology through narratives of self-standards.
