Abstract
This study aims to examine how adolescent viewers perceive crossdresser-themed content on the Instagram account @dika_bj, a popular form of entertainment that is actually inconsistent with prevailing social norms in Indonesia, yet continues to attract a large audience, with the account reaching 2.2 million followers. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach, collecting data through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, which were then analyzed using Perception Theory covering the stages of sensation, attention, and interpretation. The findings reveal that adolescents interpret crossdresser-themed content purely as entertainment and as part of the content creator's professional work, an interpretation rooted in the culture of crossdressing in local performing arts, the algorithmic nature of social media, and the concept of gender performativity as parody, which together explain the widespread circulation of similar content in Indonesian digital media. Repeated exposure to the content also influenced some adolescents to imitate the humorous style portrayed in the videos, yet social norms and family upbringing continued to provide clear boundaries for them. Ultimately, although adolescents accepted crossdresser-themed content as digital entertainment, they firmly rejected and did not practice crossdressing in their everyday lives.
