Abstract
Surakarta is a city with a rich diversity of artistic traditions that continue to be preserved, while contemporary arts are also actively developed. However, the existing art facilities in Surakarta tend to be functionally separated, resulting in fragmented artistic activities and limited flexibility in accommodating the wide range of artistic practices within the city. Referring to the Surakarta Regional Long-Term Development Plan (RPJPD) 2025–2045, which emphasizes the government's commitment to facilitating artistic activities, there is a need for a dedicated facility that can accommodate artists and various forms of artistic activities in a unified and integrated manner. The design concept of this project is based on the theme of Titik Jumbuh (Point of Convergence), employing a Flexible Architecture approach and the Transformation method. The proposed Surakarta Art Center, designed through the principles of Flexible Architecture, is intended to serve as a venue, central hub, and gathering place for artists to carry out diverse artistic activities. The primary objective of this design is to establish the Surakarta Art Center as a flexible and integrated center for arts and cultural activities in Surakarta.
