Abstract

Tuban is a region rich in culture, history, and the arts, shaped by the acculturation of various influences, including Javanese, Islamic, Hindu–Buddhist, and colonial traditions. Despite its significant cultural potential, the existing arts facilities remain insufficient to accommodate the continuous growth of artistic communities, including the need for spaces that can connect both emerging and established artists. At the same time, the millions of tourists visiting Tuban each year, along with the numerous cultural events regularly held, demonstrate that artistic and cultural activities in the region are thriving, yet they still lack a truly adequate venue. Therefore, the design of the Tuban Cultural Center is proposed as an integrated facility that accommodates artistic activities, educational programs, training, and performances within a single complex. The design process was carried out through data collection, data analysis, theme selection, and concept formulation, which were then translated into a Contemporary Vernacular Architecture approach combined with the Pattern-Based Framework method. The design results indicate that the cultural center functions not only as a hub for artistic activities but also as a space that supports the preservation and development of arts and culture in Tuban. Keywords: Cultural Center, Tuban, Contemporary Vernacular, Acculturation.
