Abstract
This study aims to analyze the effect of job stress and motivation on the work-life balance of university students working at coffee shops in East Surabaya. This research employed a quantitative approach with a causal associative research design. The population consisted of active university students working at coffee shops in East Surabaya, while the sample was selected using a purposive sampling technique, resulting in 108 respondents. Data were collected through a questionnaire using a Likert scale and analyzed using the Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) method with SmartPLS software. The results indicate that job stress has a positive and significant effect on work-life balance, meaning that the first hypothesis, which proposed a negative effect of job stress on work-life balance, is rejected. These findings suggest that job stress, when experienced at a manageable level, encourages students to become more disciplined in managing their time, responsibilities, and priorities between work, academic activities, and personal life. Furthermore, motivation has a positive and significant effect on work-life balance, indicating that the second hypothesis is accepted. Motivation driven by family support and economic needs helps students perform their dual roles as employees and university students more effectively, enabling them to maintain a balance between work, academic responsibilities, and personal life. Therefore, motivation serves as a factor that strengthens work-life balance, while adaptive job stress can also contribute to the development of a better work-life balance among university students working at coffee shops in East Surabaya. Keywords: Job Stress, Motivation, Work Life Balance, Working University Students, Coffee Shop.
