Abstract
This study aims to analyze the relationship between work-life balance and job satisfaction among freelancers in the creative industry in Surabaya, with motivation serving as a mediating variable. The research was motivated by the large number of young workers who choose to work in the informal sector or as freelancers, driven by the goal of achieving a better work-life balance compared to working in the formal sector. The unstable nature of informal work, coupled with the lack of health insurance and pension funds, leads to long term dissatisfaction among these freelancers; however, it is noteworthy that these creative industry freelancers persist in their work despite the pressures. The research method employed was quantitative, utilizing an online questionnaire survey distributed to the target population creative industry freelancers in Surabaya. The data was examined using PLS SEM 4.0 on 139 subjects who provided it. The findings reveal that a healthy work-life balance positively influences job satisfaction. Additionally, intrinsic motivation plays a mediating role in the connection between work-life balance and job satisfaction for freelancers in the creative sector in Surabaya. These insights are anticipated to guide independent freelancers in the creative industry or those not affiliated with any organization in achieving a balanced use of their time, which can enhance their overall satisfaction levels..
