Abstract

Indonesia's fisheries sector possesses abundant marine resource potential; however, domestic fish market management still faces serious challenges regarding the lack of infrastructure and sanitation standards. Sidoarjo Regency, particularly the Sedati District, is a major fisheries hub with the largest wild-caught fish production in the area, yet its fish market conditions are often poorly organized and lack hygienic facilities. This research focuses on the design of a Hygienic Fish Market in Sedati, Sidoarjo, as a modern public facility that prioritizes health standards, food safety, and user comfort through adaptive architectural solutions. The design method was conducted through a systematic process, including primary data collection via field observations, as well as secondary data from literature studies and government regulations. The collected data were analyzed to formulate a design concept using the Coastal Tropical Architecture approach and the form follows function principle to ensure operational efficiency. The result of this research is an integrated fish market design that merges trading areas, management offices, and sanitation facilities in accordance with technical standards. The core design strategies include optimizing massive cross-ventilation to neutralize fishy odors, implementing a stilt structure for tidal flood mitigation, and separating wet and dry zones linearly to prevent cross-contamination of products.
