Abstract
Tawheed education is the fundamental basis for shaping the character and spirituality of young children, particularly during the golden age, which is crucial for cognitive, emotional, and affective development. However, introducing the concept of tawheed to children aged 4–6 presents significant challenges due to its abstract nature, while children at the pre‑operational stage are still dominated by concrete, intuitive, and symbolic thinking. Field findings indicate that parents and teachers often struggle to convey the concept of Allah’s oneness in language that is easily understood by children. In addition, existing tawheed learning media are generally limited to narrative and passive visuals, which are less effective in maintaining children’s attention and engagement. This study aims to design an interactive illustrated book to introduce tawheed to children aged 4–6, bridging the gap between abstract concepts and the cognitive capacity of early childhood. The medium developed focuses on a physical book with interactive elements such as pop‑ups and lift‑the‑flap features, combined with expressive illustrations, concise narration, and an affirmative approach emphasizing the introduction of Allah as the Most Compassionate and Most Merciful. The theoretical foundation includes early childhood cognitive development, tawheed concepts in Islamic education, and principles of visual communication design covering illustration, layout, typography, and color. The design outcome is expected to serve as an effective and enjoyable alternative educational medium, assisting parents and teachers in delivering tawheed values in a contextual manner, while enhancing children’s emotional involvement and basic understanding of Allah’s oneness. This interactive illustrated book is anticipated to contribute to strengthening early literacy, internalizing tawheed values, and fostering positive early spiritual experiences for young children.
