Abstract

The Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate plant from Water Glass and Carbon Dioxide using the Carbonation process, with a capacity of 60,000 tons/year, is planned to be established in the Tajur Udik Industrial Zone, Gunung Putri District, Bogor, West Java Province. Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate is widely used in various other industrial sectors, particularly in the food industry, detergent manufacturing, pH control, and carbonated water production. In this Preliminary Plant Design, the plant is scheduled to operate for 330 days a year, 24 hours a day.Briefly, the manufacturing process of Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate is carried out by heating Water Glass and Carbon Dioxide to a temperature of 70°C, which are then fed into the reactor to become Sodium Carbonate. The reaction occurs at a temperature of 70°C under a pressure of 2 atm. The top output of the reactor consists of unreacted CO2, which is recycled back into the reactor. Meanwhile, the bottom output of the reactor is fed into Reactor 2 along with Carbon Dioxide to form Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate. The top output of this reactor is unreacted CO2 and is recycled back into the reactor. The bottom output of the reactor is fed into a Rotary Drum Vacuum Filter to separate the filtrate from the cake. The filtrate from the Rotary Drum Vacuum Filter is fed back into Mixer 2 as it still contains Sodium Carbonate. Meanwhile, the cake from the Rotary Drum Vacuum Filter is dried in a Rotary Dryer using hot air in a counter-current flow. The hot air originates from ambient air blown by a blower, which is then heated in a heater before being channeled into the rotary dryer. The top output of the rotary dryer, consisting of hot air and entrained solids, is separated using a cyclone, where the hot air is vented to the atmosphere while the entrained solids are fed along with the bottom product of the rotary dryer into a cooling screw conveyor. The crystals are cooled in the cooling screw conveyor to a temperature of 30°C and then pulverized using a ball mill to 100 mesh. Subsequently, the Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate is stored in a silo as the final product storage of Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate NaHCO3. The final product is then packed into 50 kg bags for marketing.
